UK Says Booster Shots Still Protecting Older People Against Omicron

LONDON (Reuters») The booster jabs continue offer high levels of protection against severe Omicron coronavirus type disease in older adults, and there is no reason to get a fourth shot right now, British health officials stated on Friday.

The UK Health Security Agency stated that the risk of hospitalization protection for people 65 years old or older was at about 90% three months after the third jab.

“The results are extremely positive and emphasizes the importance of booster vaccination,” Wei Shen Lim, the chair of COVID-19 immunisation on the government’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation In a statement.

“The current data show the booster dose is continuing to provide high levels of protection against serious illness, even for the most vulnerable older age groups,” he said.

“For this reason, although the second dose of booster is not necessary immediately the committee decided it was unnecessary to administer it. However the decision will be examined.”

The UKHSA said that protection against mild symptoms of infections was less effective than protection against severe diseases . It dropped to 30% after three months.
