Second US COVID-19 Case Caused by Omicron found
A second U.S. case of COVID-19 caused by the Omicron variant has been picked up by genetic tests in Minnesota.
After attending the Anime NYC 2021 conference at Javits Center in New York City just a few weeks before the man from Hennepin County (MN) fell sick on November 22. He sought testing on November 24. According to the Minnesota Department of Health, his symptoms have improved. The man was completely vaccinated, the department declared.
He was advised to isolate from others however it’s not known whether he was in contact with anyone else before learning he was infected.
“This news is concerning, but it is not surprising,” said Governor Tim Walz in an announcement. We are aware that the virus is highly infectious and quickly spreads across the globe. Minnesotans are aware of the steps they can take to keep themselves safe now: get the vaccine, get tested and wear a face mask when they are indoors. Together, we can beat this disease and keep Minnesotans safe.”
The first case of COVID-19 caused by Omicron was detected on Wednesday in California. This was one of the travelers who had recently returned from South Africa.
